The YWCA Empowering Mums: English Club provides free English classes to empower disadvantaged foreign mums of Singapore families. It features a specially developed curriculum by Ms Betty Tan spanning ten sessions that aims to help mums gain basic to intermediate English skills for daily conversation.
The lessons run for two hours each session and volunteers will be paired in small groups with our mums. While mums attend, their children who need childminding are cared for and reading resources are provided to engage them as well.
The service runs on Thursdays, 10am-12pm with the following details:
Roles | Description | Schedule |
Befriender / Tutor | Befriend the mums and tutor them in English conversation based on curriculum. English teaching or phonics experience encouraged. | 2022 Term 2 (TBC) |
Childminder | Take care of the children depending on their age and read with them | Class dates as stated above |
