YWCA Empowering Women: Digital Literacy Programme

Background and Objective

Together with White Byte, YWCA Empowering Women
presents a new digital literacy programme.

This programme seeks to equip mothers and women from marginalised backgrounds with fundamental digital knowledge to empower them in navigating the increasingly digitalised economy with greater confidence.

Thus, enabling them to remain relevant in the workplace and/or gain better employment opportunities.

Programme Delivery

The 2-hour sessions will be conducted in-person by White Byte at YWCA National Office (254 Outram Road, Singapore 169051). Each session will comprise of a mix of theoretical concepts and hands-on activities, with a revision of key concepts from the session before. The trainer will also be providing post-class consultation where needed.

Learners are encouraged to bring along their own devices if available. Laptops will be provided for usage during the session on a need-basis. Halal refreshments and childminding are provided for children above 2 years old so that mothers can attend the sessions with peace of mind.


Who is Eligible?

Eligibility Criteria

Through the programme we strive to serve mothers/women who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Mother of a Singaporean or Permanent Resident Child
  • Holding at least a Long-Term Visit Pass
  • Average household Per Capital Income of less than or equal to $1500/month (any deviations will be subject to case-by-case approval).
  • Committed to complete the course by paying $30 registration fee
  • Must be able to understand at least basic English (i.e., Primary school level)
  • Should possess rudimentary knowledge of device usage (e.g., turn the device on/off; launch applications with their own password)

Programme Component

With the curriculum developed by White Byte, the programme will feature weekly sessions that will expose learners to the use of cloud-based text and tabular tools on laptops as well as on their mobile devices. It will also guide them in applying their knowledge to everyday applications that they might face in their personal lives and workplaces.

Session 1: Going Digital

Gmail and Google account set-up, password security tips, introduction to current trends in digital economy and navigating common applications such as QR code, Microsoft Word vs Google Doc, etc.

28th June 2024

Session 2: Digital Documents

Formatting for success, scenario-based etiquette for documents, adding images to documents and overview of Microsoft Powerpoint vs Google Slides.

5th July 2024

730pm - 930pm

Session 3: Digital Tables and Tools

Refresher on creating and formatting tables, integrating tables to text-based documents for reporting/counting, introduction to scheduling tools (e-calendar), introduction to Google forms.

12th July 2024

730pm - 930pm

Session 4: Revision and Assessment

Review of past sessions and 1 hour assessment consisting of MCQs and a practical test.

2nd August 2024**

Graduation Ceremony

Application Process

To register for the programme, kindly approach your social worker/Comlink Office who will follow up with us on the necessary application procedures.

If you are not supported by a social worker or any social service agencies, please download the application form from our webpage and send in completed form with the Annex to csp@ywca.org.sg. 

Our staff will assess your eligibility and contact you for further information if needed.
