Elderly Outings

YWCA’s elderly outings are an offshoot of its mainstay Hungry No More: Meals-on-Wheels for Elderly/Disabled programme.

Since 2013, YWCA has aimed to meet not only the physical but also the socioemotional needs of our elderly beneficiaries through organised outings every alternate month. These outings range from:

  1. Movie Lunches featuring local Cathay film classics in collaboration with the Asian Film Archive held at the YWCA Fort Canning Lodge;
  2. Visits to sites of cultural significance such as the Malay Heritage Centre and National Museum;
  3. Places of interest like the Esplanade and Singapore Flyer;
  4. And scenic spots such as Gardens by the Bay and Botanic Gardens.

By providing such supplementary services, YWCA seeks to create opportunities for elderly living alone in rental flats to socialise, improve their wellness by being out of the house, and to find renewed purpose and engagement by interacting and sharing their lived knowledge with volunteers and other elderly alike.

Most of the programmes are extended to wheelchair-bound elderly and disabled and all are free for participating Meals-on-Wheels beneficiaries. Please contact Ms Mandy Lim by email to find out more about upcoming activities.

For potential volunteers who are inspired to make a difference in the lives of these elderly, come volunteer with us!  The YWCA would also like to take this opportunity to ask for your support in donations as we reach out to touch their lives and to make a difference in their world. Just $2.50 pays for the cost of one meal so donate today!
