YWCA House

The YWCA House was launched in November 2013 and serves as a platform for young women between 18 – 25 years old to start anew and rebuild their lives for a better future. The hostel promotes independent living and highly encourages residents to live responsibly and strive for a better life through pursing higher education qualifications.

Residents are referred by children and young people’s home or an agency, together with a complete social report. An intake interview will be scheduled to meet the young lady, if possible together with the parents and/or social worker. The objective of the intake interview is to assess the applicant’s readiness for independence living.

After the intake interview, the approval of applicant’s stay is subjected to the management’s approval. Social workers are to provide at least 6 months after care for the applicant upon admission to the YWCA House to ensure a smooth transition towards independence. Residents are to follow the YWCA Rules and Regulations. They are strictly not allowed to bring any visitors into the rooms. Smoking and drinking alcohol are also prohibited within the YWCA premises.

The YWCA will be able to provide food upon request, but does not provide any cash for residents. Residents are fully responsible for their finances. Rent should be paid on every 1st of the month. As the YWCA has various community services and programmes, residents are strongly encouraged to volunteer, though it is not obligatory.

Applicants of the YWCA House must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident;
  • Female, Single, 18 – 25 years old;
  • Limited financial and family support
  • Income less than $1,800 (if working)
  • Must be referred by a social worker
